Planning for Your Safety |
|
Do not tell your abuser that you are leaving. Do not tell your abuser that if they do it again you will call the police. Do not leave your children with your abuser! Pack a bag in advance, leave it at a friend's house or neighbor’s house. Include an extra change of clothes and shoes for you and your children. Also, pack a favorite toy. Hide an extra set of car and house keys outside the house in case you have to leave quickly. Keep a list of emergency telephone numbers with you. Gather together important papers such as: -Birth Certificates for you and children -Deed or lease to house -Checkbook and extra checks -Car registration -Medicine and medical records -Any court papers or orders -Green Card or work permit Set aside and extra money you can save. Call a domestic violence agency for help. By having someone to talk to, you can learn about your rights and the choices you can make. |
